Research is the glue that holds mobile apps together. The initial research of finding out about the target audience, what problems they have, and what will most benefit them is the most important stage when curating an app for a specific product. This mobile app was made for a shelter called Friends of Detroit where they have pets people can adopt and foster. I interviewed their leader and she expressed that their main issues were the fact that many people returned their animals because they couldn’t take care of them anymore.
To that, I created an app that gave people many options to turn to before surrendering their pet. There was a community forum you could post questions to, a FAQ from the shelter, and a live chat support so you could always feel supported when you were struggling with your pet. My main goal was so people had options before resorting to the most extreme choice. Coding this entire app was a challenge because it had so many moving parts, but it taught the importance of staying organized and really focusing on how to give the user a good experience versus it just being a novelty.
